How Are EV Dash Lights Different Than Other Vehicles?
You may be wondering why the lights need to be different in electric vehicles than they are in others. The quick and simple answer is that electric cars operate in an entirely different way—there’s no combustion motor, no gasoline, and no oil, so electric vehicles don’t have any of the classic “check engine” lights that most of us are used to.
Instead, they have lights that indicate the health of the high-voltage EV battery. So, instead of a low fuel light, you’ll get a low charge light. Instead of a check engine light, you’ll get a battery fault light. And so on.
However, many of the other lights are the exact same as an internal combustion car. Brakes, tire pressure, and other important dash indicators are often the same regardless of what kind of powertrain you’re packing.
