It wasn’t all that long ago when autonomous cars sounded like a far-flung science fiction trope. Now, in 2024, we’re on the cusp of a completely new era, with more and more vehicles having at least some level of self-driving capability.

Many new models like the LYRIQ can be driven hands-free, but Cadillac has a lot more in store. Read on to check out Cadillac’s self-driving technology, as well as all their awesome future concept cars.

Cadillac Super Cruise®

Currently, Cadillac offers some of the best-reviewed hands-free driving technology on the market.

Modern luxury cars are fitted with a series of sensors, cameras, and LiDAR. Using this tech, Super Cruise® equipped vehicles use driver assistance features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision System, and Lane Centering. This allows level 2 self-driving on hundreds of miles of roads across North America.

Vehicles with Super Cruise® can follow a steady distance behind vehicles ahead, slow down and brake when necessary, and even initiate a lane change. The technology also works while pulling a trailer.

Super Cruise® is currently available on the following Cadillac models:

Self-Driving Cadillac Concept Cars

Cadillac envisions a future where luxury vehicles aren’t just a way to get from A to B. Through autonomous vehicle technology, the minds at Cadillac hope to design modes of transport that allow people to regain the “greatest luxury of all”—their personal time.

InnerSpace

This two-person coupe concept looks more like a personal movie theater than a car. Because the car drives itself, there’s no need for features like foot pedals, steering wheels, or even windshields. The interior has a single sofa-style seat and a wraparound panoramic SMD LED screen, which can be used to view media while the car ferries you to your destination.

“Wellness” is the prime directive behind the design of InnerSpace. Using biometric scanners, the car can recommend adjustments in light, temperature, and scent to facilitate the most comfortable ride possible.

SocialSpace

Where InnerSpace is meant to provide an intimate experience between two people, SocialSpace is a tank-like six-person EV designed to curate a party atmosphere.

The cab features wraparound seating, allowing passengers to face each other and engage in conversation, as well as make use of the ample comfort amenities inside while they travel to their destination. From personal use to public transport, the potential applications of a vehicle like this are nearly limitless.

PersonalSpace

This one might be considered the most “out there” of the whole collection because it doesn’t travel on the road. The design calls for eight helicopter rotors to allow PersonalSpace to take flight and transport its passengers in unparalleled style.

As a one-seater, the interior is geared for maximum comfort and technological interfacing, allowing for productivity or tranquility in equal measure. The panoramic glass window is also included to provide breathtaking views.

OpenSpace

Perhaps the most impressive concept, this self-driving recreational vehicle looks nicer than most modern American homes. We can only imagine how much it’ll cost if something like it ever gets made.

When driving, the sleek and seamless exterior provides a safe haven of privacy for the family, and when stopped, the living space expands to provide a level of luxury that rivals a five-star resort.
